Write and publish your story with me!
Call all creative kids. Do you want to become a published author? Well, here’s your chance.

Sign up to my week-long writing course this half term and we will work together to help you write and illustrate your very own book.

Everyone who participates in this course will receive a published copy of their book to keep.

The details.

When: 1st-4th June 2021 (Tuesday to Friday).
Time: 8.30-9.45 a.m. daily.
Where: On Zoom.
Who: This course is open to anyone aged 7-10 years.
How much: £85 per person (includes one copy of the published book).

A sneak peak of the book covers from the creative writing course I did at Easter. The children wrote their stories over the course of the week, along with a blurb. They also designed their own front covers and some included illustrations throughout their stories. A hardback copy of their story will be on its way to them soon.

I will be repeating this course during the half term, Tuesday to Friday, 1st-4th June, 8.30-9.45 a.m. daily. Places are limited and you can book via the Storymakers website shop. Can’t wait!

What a brilliant week.

I want to say a huge congratulations to the children who have worked so hard this week writing their stories. I can’t wait for them to receive their published books. They’re going to be so excited. And proud.

Do you have a child in Year 4 or 5?

There are a number of reasons why you might enrol your child on my vocabulary boosting sessions:

They're studying for the 11+
They'll be taking a secondary school entrance exam
They struggle to find the right words
They always default to using the same words

My vocabulary sessions help children to improve their understanding of words and how to use them. I feel this is a particularly important skill to help them gain a better grasp of the English language whilst also helping to improve their writing.

In my experience of the 11+, I have noticed that children often come up against problems when their vocabulary is lacking. This is particularly true for the Verbal Reasoning element of the test.

If they don’t recognise or know a word, they can’t spot it or connect it to a set.

A stronger vocabulary set will help set the foundations for moving into Year 6 and beyond to secondary school.

In doing this, we hope to increase confidence too.

The vocabulary sessions start NEXT TUESDAY at 4.30 p.m.

Each session runs for one hour (on Zoom) and there are five in total at a cost of £50 per child. With small groups of 6 maximum, we get plenty of time to discuss and go round the group.

It’s blurb day...

The children I’ve been working with this week have been busy writing their stories.

Today, they’ll be putting together the blurb and I think it’s going to really bring home that their stories will become an actual book.

Imagine how excited they’ll be when they get to hold their very own published book in their hands?

I’m so excited for them!

The Storymakers Writing Club is not the same as an

The Storymakers Writing Club is not the same as an online classroom.

I keep the groups purposely small (no more than 8) so I can get to know all of the children and they can get to know me, and each other.

The groups are also small so that I can get round each child to make sure they understand what we are doing and to hear what they have written. I usually find that the children are more than happy to read out their work because these small group environments serve to encourage their confidence.

What’s also encouraging, is how when someone reads something, someone else will write in the chat about how awesome it is.

We learn together. And just an hour a week can mean all the difference.
